For members’ convenience in preparing to choose the 2017-2018 season at our April meeting, here (in alphabetical order by title) is a list of the proposals received so far.
Auntie Mame (Full Proposal) - Winter or Spring
Director: Celeste Parsons
Synopsis: The madcap adventures of a boy, Patrick, growing up as the ward of the fabulous socialite Mame, the eccentric sister of his dead father.
Characters: 8 Men, 7 Women, 3 Boys
Burlesque Humor Revisited (Full Proposal) - Fall, Winter, or Spring (in order of preference)
Director: Alexa Ross
Synopsis: A lecturer (the straight man) begins discussing the history of burlesque, and is interrupted by the comic and the talking lady, leading into skits that end with blackouts. Acting style must be very broad - double takes. There are three characters, the straight man, the comic, the talking lady each in about ten different skits. Recreating the ambience of a burlesque house with a musical ensemble in a side box, several comic songs, a heckler in the audience, and women performing stripteases between the skits.
Characters: 6 Men, 10 Women, 1 Boy
Elf Jr. the Musical (Full Proposal) - Christmas
Director: Jodi MacNeal
Synopsis: Buddy is an orphan who is accidentally transported to the North Pole in Santa’s bag and raised as an elf. When Buddy discovers he is human, Santa sends him to New York City to find his father, but Buddy discovers his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother does not believe in Santa. Buddy is determined to have a relationship with his father, win over his family, and help the city of New York remember the true meaning Christmas.
Characters: A large ensemble of boys & girls, ages 5 to18.
Godspell (Full Proposal) - Fall
Director: Chris Parsons
Synopsis: A gentle retelling of the life of Jesus, with many memorable songs including "Day By Day," "Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All for the Best," "All Good Gifts," "Turn Back O Man," and "By My Side."
Characters: 10 person ensemble
Kiss Me Kate(Full Proposal) - Winter
Director: Sylvia Abbott
Synopsis: Passions run high as leading lady Lilli Vanessi and her ex-husband, actor/director Fred Graham, battle onstage and off in a production of Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew. With romance, comedy, sophistication, and behind-the-scenes high jinks, KISS ME, KATE combines the irreverent humor of two brilliant writers: Cole Porter and William Shakespeare. Musical numbers include “So In Love,” “Wunderbar,” “Tom, Dick or Harry,” “Too Darn Hot,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” “I Hate Men,” “Always True to You (In My Fashion)” and “Another Op’nin, Another Show.”
Characters: 7 Men, 3 Women, 10-15 Any
Trifles a play in one act (Full Proposal) - Summer (June)
Director: Karen Chan
Synopsis: John Wright has been strangled to death with a rope in his mega-creepy Midwestern farmhouse. The main suspect of the grizzly crime? His wife. As the County Attorney, Sheriff Peters, and a neighboring farmer named Mr. Hale investigate the house for clues, the real sleuths turn out to be Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters.
Characters: 3 Men, 2 Women, 1 Any
