Pooh explains the situation to Piglet, but the two can´t think of what sort of surprise to prepare. They enlist help from Rabbit.

Rabbit pulls suggestions out of her magic hat—a birthday banner and card for everyone to sign. Unfortunately, Rabbit thinks Eeyore´s birthday is next week—so Pooh and Piglet must think of their own solution.
1437 1448
Pooh decides to give Eeyore a pot of honey for a present.  But when he needs “a little smackerel of something” before going to see Eeyore, he eats the whole pot of honey. Pooh decides to give the empty pot to Eeyore as a Useful Pot To Put Things In, and wants to write a birthday message on the side.  Since he doesn´t know how to write, he calls for Owl to help.
1439 1452
They agree that with Owl´s message of “A Very Happy Birthday With Love From Pooh,” no one else will have as nice a pot. Pooh visits Eeyore and tells him about the birthday message on the Useful Pot.
1455 1457
Piglet arrives with her present of a balloon—but she tripped and fell on it on the way.  This is all that is left. As Pooh consoles Piglet, Eeyore makes a discovery:  “Look, Pooh.  My balloon goes into my pot.”
1462 1463
“And it comes out!” “It´s just right!  I'm having a birthday!”  Eeyore exclaims.
1474
As Owl and Rabbit escort Eeyore away to have some thistle cake, Pooh and Piglet talk about what to do tomorrow.  They decide that whatever they do will be fine as long as they do it together—“It's always more fun with two.”
